Dal 21 Giugno al 2 Luglio, presso la Base Aerea di Konya in Turchia (3nci Ana Jet Üs /3rd Main Jet Base), si è svolta la ventesima edizione dell’ “Anatolian Eagle” (AE). Tale esercitazione, che viene organizzata con cadenza annuale dal 2001, ha impiegato negli anni più di 33.000 persone, 2.000 aerei e ben 24.000 sortite raggiungendo quest’anno 15 paesi partecipanti.
Nell’edizione di quest’anno, oltre al personale e gli aerei dell’aeronautica turca ed i comandi navali, hanno partecipato all’addestramento anche le unità aeree militari di Qatar, Azerbaijan e Pakistan insieme alla NATO.
Lo scopo dell’esercitazione è stato quello di condividere le conoscenze, le abilità e le esperienze di tutti i partecipanti in un ambiente di guerra realistico al fine di aumentare i livelli di addestramento per le operazioni combinate ( COMAO ).
Nello specifico:
- aumentare il livello di addestramento operativo dei piloti e del personale di difesa aerea in un ambiente operativo il più realistico possibile
- esercitare e sviluppare procedure operative congiunte e combinate
- diminuire le perdite ad un livello minimo ed aumentare l’efficacia della missione ad un livello massimo in un contesto operativo reale
- dare la possibilità ai piloti dei caccia di eseguire le loro tattiche pianificate in grandi composizioni di forze
- fornire un forum per scambiare idee e lezioni apprese
- addestrare i partecipanti al combattimento aereo ed insegnare a loro come sopravvivere
L’addestramento migliora anno dopo anno il livello di formazione dei partecipanti, creando un teatro di combattimento realistico all’interno di uno scenario specifico, le forze blu ( Blue Force – vedi elenco partecipanti riportati in seguito ) conducono attacchi COMAO contro gli obiettivi sul territorio delle forze rosse, difesi dai sistemi SAM e dagli aerei da combattimento ( Red Force – composta da 6 F-16 del 132 Filo di base a Konya ) che simulano le tattiche degli “Aggressor”.
Durante l’International Anatolian Eagle Training, per la prima volta, è stata eseguita la valutazione di certificazione delle capacità che la Turchia ha espresso per la NATO Response Force (NRF). Durante l’Anatolian Eagle infatti sono state valutate la prontezza al combattimento e la capacità di interoperabilità di 6 F-16 insieme ad 1 aereo cisterna KC-135R con 6 squadre di difesa aerea Stinger.
La Turchia e la NATO negli ultimi anni sono stati sempre più in disaccordo su varie questioni, in particolare sul controverso acquisto da parte della Turchia di missili russi avanzati di difesa aerea S-400. Tuttavia, durante il vertice NATO di giugno 2021, il presidente turco Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ha cercato di allentare le tensioni tra la Turchia e gli altri membri dell’alleanza.
Di seguito, nel dettaglio, i partecipanti all’ANATOLIAN EAGLE ( Blue Force ):
- 33 F-16, 2 KC-135R, 1 E-7T HİK e 1 ANKA-S dell’Aeronautica Turca (UCAV sviluppato dalla Turchia)
- 2 Fregate e 2 Cannoniere della Marina Turca
- 2 SU-25 e 2 MiG-29 dall’Azerbaijan,
- 4 Rafale dal Qatar,
- 1 E-3A della NATO,
- 5 JF-17 del Pakistan,
- Bangladesh, Bielorussia, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Georgia, Iraq, Svezia, Kosovo, Libano, Ungheria, Malesia, Nigeria, Romania, Tunisia, Ucraina, Oman, Giordania e Giappone hanno partecipato in qualità di osservatori.
- SOLOTÜRK con F-16 e Turkish Stars con F-5 hanno eseguito dei voli dimostrativi durante il Media Day organizzato il 30 Giugno
Primizie all’AE…
Degna di nota la presenza dell’ Aeronautica Militare dell’Azerbaijan che ha preso parte all’addestramento (per la prima volta quest’anno) con propri aerei ( MIG-29 e SU-25 ) nello status di “elemento partecipante”. In passato aveva partecipato alle varie edizioni ma solo con lo status di “osservatore”.
Altra nota la partecipazione per la prima volta in Turchia dei caccia multiruolo Dassault Rafale di costruzione francese della forza aerea del Qatar. Il Qatar ha iniziato solo di recente a prendere in consegna i jet francesi di 4,5 generazione. Sono lo stesso tipo di caccia che la Grecia, rivale della Turchia, inizierà presto a ricevere dalla Francia per il servizio nella forza aerea ellenica.

ANATOLIAN EAGLE 2021 – 21 JUNE – 2 JULY – KONYA AIR BASE – TÜRK HAVA KUVVETLERI
From 21 June to 2 July, at Konya Air Base in Turkey (3nci Ana Jet Üs /3rd Main Jet Base) the 20th edition of the Anatolian Eagle (AE) took place. This exercise, which has been organized annually since 2001, has involved over the years more than 33,000 people, 2,000 aircraft and 24,000 sorties reaching this year 15 participating countries.
In this year’s edition, in addition to Turkish Air Force personnel and aircrafts and naval commands, air force units from Qatar, Azerbaijan, Pakistan together with NATO participated in the training.
The purpose of the exercise was to share the knowledge, skills and experience of all participants in a realistic war environment in order to increase training levels for combined operations ( COMAO ).
Specifically:
1- to increase the level of operational training of pilots and air defense personnel in as realistic an operational environment as possible
2- to exercise and develop joint and combined operational procedures
3- to decrease friction to a minimum level and increase mission effectiveness to a maximum level in a real operational environment
4- to give fighter pilots the ability to execute their planned tactics in large force compositions
5- to provide a forum to exchange ideas and learned lessons
6- to train participants in aerial combat and teach them how to survive
The training improves each year the skill level of the participants, creating a realistic theater of combat within a specific scenario, the blue forces ( Blue Force – see list of participants below ) conducting COMAO attacks against targets on the territory of the red forces, defended by SAM systems and fighter planes ( Red Force – composed of 6 F-16 of 132 Filo based in Konya ) simulating the tactics of the Aggressors.
During the International Anatolian Eagle Training, for the first time, the certification assessment of the capabilities that Turkey has committed to the NATO Response Force (NRF) was performed. In fact, during the Anatolian Eagle, the combat readiness and inter-operational capability of 6 F-16s along with 1 KC-135R tanker aircraft with 6 Stinger air defense teams were evaluated.
Turkey and NATO have been increasingly at odds in recent years over various issues, most notably Turkey’s controversial purchase of advanced Russian S-400 air defense missiles. However, during the June 2021 NATO summit, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan sought to ease tensions between Turkey and the other alliance members.
Below, in detail, are the participants in the ANATOLIAN EAGLE ( Blue Force ):
- 33 F-16s, 2 KC-135Rs, 1 E-7T HİK and 1 ANKA-S from the Turkish Air Force (Turkish-developed UCAV).
- 2 Frigates and 2 Gunboats of the Turkish Navy
- 2 SU-25s and 2 MiG-29s from Azerbaijan
- 4 Rafale from Qatar,
- 1 E-3A from NATO,
- 5 JF-17s from Pakistan,
- Bangladesh, Belarus, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Georgia, Iraq, Sweden, Kosovo, Lebanon, Hungary, Malaysia, Nigeria, Romania, Tunisia, Ukraine, Oman, Jordan and Japan participated as observers.
- SOLOTÜRK with F-16 and Turkish Stars with F-5 performed demonstration flights during the Media Day organized on June 30.
First fruits at AE…
Noteworthy is the presence of Azerbaijan Air Force that took part in the training (for the first time this year) with its own aircrafts ( MIG-29 and SU-25 ) in the status of “participating element”. In the past it had participated in the various editions but only with the status of “observer”.
Another note is the participation for the first time in Turkey of the French-built Dassault Rafale multirole fighter aircrafts of the Qatari Air Force. Qatar has only recently begun taking delivery of French 4.5-generation jets. These are the same type of fighter jets that Turkey’s rival Greece will soon begin receiving from France for service in the Hellenic Air Force.
