Nella seconda meta’ di Ottobre abbiamo visitato l’aeroporto di Boscomantico (Verona), dove la nostra Aeronautica Militare ha tenuto uno dei suoi tradizionali corsi di Cultura Aeronautica. L’evento era gia’ stato previsto per il 2020 ma la sopraggiunta pandemia aveva costretto le autorità ad annullarlo. Non appena è stato possibile, l’iniziativa è stata riprogrammata per l’anno in corso , permettendo a un centinaio di studenti dell’ultimo anno di alcune scuole superiori di seguire lezioni teoriche e di volare su aerei ad elica SIAI S-208M con gli istruttori del 60° Stormo dell’AMI.
L’evento è stato presentato a Verona lo scorso 18 Ottobre in presenza dell’assessore Francesca Toffali e di una rappresentanza dell’ AMI comprendente tra gli altri i Maggiori Marco Meneghello e Stefano D’Imperia, responsabile del corso.
Il 22 di Ottobre si è poi tenuto un Media Day in aeroporto per la presentazione ufficiale del corso alle autorità e agli organi di stampa, con la possibilità per alcuni di loro di partecipare ad alcuni voli dimostrativi.
L’Ufficio Scolastico Provinciale di Verona ha selezionato un centinaio di studenti di alcuni licei di Verona, su base volontaria, a cui è stato offerto di frequentare questo corso gratuito che si è basato su due fasi principali : una prima fase di lezioni teoriche (tenute fra l’altro in una prestigiosa sede come la Sala Maffeiana del Teatro Filarmonico, grazie alla collaborazione della Fondazione Arena di Verona e dell’Accademia Filarmonica di Verona) riguardanti l’attivita’ di volo e nozioni di fisica, aerodinamica, strumentazione dei velivoli e sicurezza del volo.
Dopo un primo test necessario per stilare una prima graduatoria fra gli allievi, la seconda settimana è iniziata la seconda fase con la vera e propria attivita’ di volo sui velivoli S-208 con gli istruttori del 60° Stormo, che ha permesso ai ragazzi di sperimentare vari tipi di manovre in volo, dirigendosi sul vicino lago di Garda ed anche sulla stessa citta’ di Verona.
Come sottolineato in fase di presentazione dell’evento, uno degli scopi è stato di ricreare per questi ragazzi , in poche settimane, quello che è il percorso standard del personale navigante; mostrando non solo cio’ che riguarda gli assetti e strumenti di volo ma anche tutto lo spettro degli altri impieghi ed eccellenze che contraddistinguono la nostra Aeronautica
L’attivita’ di volo sul piccolo aeroporto veronese è stata molto intensa, favorita anche dal bel tempo, e molto piacevole anche per chi vi ha assistito . A tutti i partecipanti è stato consegnato un attestato di frequenza che potrà essere considerato per la fase di conseguimento della maturità e utile anche per alcuni concorsi in Aeronautica Militare.
Queste ambite prove in volo hanno infine permesso di selezionare i due migliori allievi a cui è stato offerto uno “stage” che si svolgera’ nella prossima estate a Guidonia (Roma), sede del reparto.
Durante la presentazione in Municipio, dopo aver ringraziato il Comune di Verona, nella persona del sindaco Federico Sboarina e i responsabili dell’aeroporto di Boscomantico, il Maggiore Meneghello ha rimarcato che il loro intento sarebbe stato quello di trasmettere ai ragazzi la passione (oltre all’impegno e all’esperienza) che contraddistingue il loro lavoro. Inutile dire che siamo sicuri che questa particolare “missione” sia stata svolta nuovamente con successo.

Aeronautical Culture course with the 60th Stormo – Boscomantico (VR), October 2021
In the second half of October we visited the Boscomantico airfield (Verona), where our Air Force held one of its traditional Aeronautical Culture courses. The event had already been scheduled for 2020 but the pandemic that occurred had forced the authorities to cancel it. As soon as it was possible, the initiative was rescheduled for the current year, allowing a hundred students of the last year of some high schools to take theoretical lessons and to fly on SIAI S-208M propeller aircraft with the instructors of the AMI 60th Stormo.
The event was presented in Verona on the 18th of October in the presence of the councilor Francesca Toffali and an Air Force delegation including, among others, Majors Marco Meneghello and Stefano D’Imperia, the course supervisor.
On the 22nd of October, a Media Day was then held at the airfield for the official presentation of the course to the authorities and the press, with the possibility for some of them to take part in some demonstration flights.
The Verona Provincial School Office selected about a hundred students from high schools in Verona, on a voluntary basis, who were offered to attend this free course which was based on two main phases: a first phase of theoretical lessons (held in a prestigious venue such as the Sala Maffeiana of the Philharmonic Theater, thanks to the collaboration of the Arena di Verona Foundation and the Verona Philharmonic Academy) concerning flight activity and notions of physics, aerodynamics, aircraft instrumentation and flight safety.
After a first test necessary to draw up a first ranking among the students, the following week the second phase began, with the real flight activity on the S-208 aircraft with the instructors of the 60 ° Stormo, which allowed the children to experiment with various types of maneuvers in flight, heading to the nearby Lake Garda and also over the city of Verona itself.
As pointed out during the presentation of the event, one of the purposes was to recreate for these young people, in a few weeks, what is the standard path of the air crew; showing not only what concerns the flight assets and instruments but also the whole spectrum of other uses and excellences that distinguish our Air Force.
The flight activity at the small Veronese airport was very intense, also favored by the good weather, and very pleasant even for those who were present. All participants were given a certificate of attendance which can be considered for the graduation phase and also useful for some competitions in the Air Force.
These coveted test flights finally allowed to select the two best students who were offered an internship that will take place next summer at Guidonia (Rome), the unit homebase.
During the presentation in the town hall, after thanking Verona municipality, in the person of the mayor Federico Sboarina and the managers of the Boscomantico airfield, Major Meneghello remarked that their intent would have been to transmit the passion (in addition to the commitment and experience) that distinguishes their work. Needless to say that we are sure that this particular “mission” has been carried out successfully again.
