Anche quest’anno, in un particolare momento di alta tensione in Europa, si è svolta regolarmente l’esercitazione “Iniohos”, organizzata nella base di Andravida dall’Air Tactics Center del 117° Wing dell’Aeronautica greca.
L’evento operativo si è svolto dal 28 Marzo al 7 Aprile e ha interessato tutta una serie di nazioni partecipanti e altre in veste di osservatori.
Le operazioni in volo si sono svolte come sempre nelle aree controllate dalla FIR (Flight Information Region – Regione Informazioni di Volo) di Atene, utilizzando al meglio vaste aree marine e relativi poligoni, come pure i rilievi della Tessaglia e del Peloponneso.
Questa esercitazione, dal 2015 ad oggi, ha interessato – oltre all’Aeronautica greca – un numero sempre maggiore di paesi, alternatisi nel corso degli anni e grazie alla varietà di missioni è divenuta una tra le più competitive e realistiche in Europa e nel Mediterraneo, fornendo ai partecipanti un alto livello di addestramento ed una esperienza unica di partecipazione.
Quest’anno la Iniohos ha visto la presenza, oltre ai padroni di casa, dell’USAFE (con gli F-15E del 48° Fighter Wing di Lakenheath e droni MQ-9 Reaper), di Israele (con gli F-16I Sufa del 25° Wing di Ramon e di un G-550 AEW), della nostra Aeronautica Militare Italiana (con i Tornado IDS ed ECR del 6° Stormo di Ghedi), della Francia (con Rafale ed E-2C Hawkeye partiti dalla portaerei “Charles De Gaulle”), della Slovenia (con aerei ad elica PC-9) e di Cipro (con un elicottero AW-139).
Vari aerei cisterna hanno fornito supporto nel corso delle varie missioni.
Altri paesi, tra i quali Albania, Austria, Arabia Saudita, Canada, Croazia, Egitto, India, Kuwait, Macedonia del Nord, Marocco e Regno Unito, hanno partecipato in veste di osservatori.
Per raggiungere i vari obiettivi dell’esercitazione, l’Air Tactics Center (con gli istruttori della Fighter Weapons School dell’Aeronautica greca) ha supervisionato come al solito tutte le fasi dell’evento, dalla pianificazione dei diversi scenari fino ai vari de-briefing, assicurandosi sempre che coprissero l’intero range di missioni effettuate attualmente dalla Hellenic Air Force, come :
– operazioni aeree contro sistemi integrati di difesa aerea
– controaviazione / attacchi ad aeroporti
– interdizione aerea / obiettivi speciali (ponti, centrali elettriche, ecc.)
– missioni antinave
– ricerca e soccorso in zone di combattimento
– individuazione dinamica (in tempo reale) degli obiettivi / coordinazione degli strike (attacchi al suolo) e ricognizione / supporto aereo ravvicinato / obiettivi “time sensitive”
– protezione/attacco di assetti aerei di alto valore (AWACS, ricognitori, aerei ECM)
L’evento ha previsto anche due Spotters Day, oltre al tradizionale Media Day svoltosi il 1 Aprile.
Grazie all’alto livello del personale della Hellenic Air Force e la capacita’ di condurre un ampia varietà di missioni e di operazioni aeree combinate (COMAO), coinvolgendo un’alto numero di diversi sistemi d’arma, la Iniohos si è ritagliata uno spazio molto importante nel panorama degli addestramenti militari, con poco da invidiare alle esercitazioni “Flag” su più ampia scala organizzate oltreoceano.

Also this year, in a particular moment of high tension in Europe, the “Iniohos” exercise took place regularly, organized at Andravida by the Air Tactics Center / 117th Wing of the Greek Air Force.
The operational event took place from 28th March to 7th April and involved a whole series of participating nations and others as observers.
The flight operations took place as always in the areas controlled by the FIR (Flight Information Region) of Athens, making the best use of vast marine areas and related polygons, as well as the elevations of Thessaly and the Peloponnese.
This exercise, from 2015 to today, has involved – in addition to the Greek Air Force – an increasing number of countries, alternating over the years, and thanks to the variety of missions it has become one of the most competitive and realistic ones in Europe and in the Mediterranean, providing participants with a high level of training and a unique participation experience.
This year Iniohos saw the presence, in addition to the “landlords”, of USAFE (with the F-15Es of the 48th Fighter Wing from Lakenheath and MQ-9 Reaper drones), of Israel (with the F-16Is Sufa of Ramon 25th Wing and a G-550 AEW), of our AMI (with the Tornado IDS and ECR of the 6th Wing from Ghedi), of France (with Rafale fighters and an E-2C Hawkeye departed from “Charles De Gaulle” aircraft carrier), Slovenia (with PC-9 propeller aircraft) and Cyprus (with an AW-139 helicopter).
Various tanker aircraft provided support throughout the various missions.
Other countries, including Albania, Austria, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Croatia, Egypt, India, Kuwait, North Macedonia, Morocco and United Kingdom, participated as observers.
To achieve the various objectives of the exercise, the Air Tactics Center (with the instructors of the Fighter Weapons School of the Greek Air Force) supervised as usual all the phases of the event, from the planning of the different scenarios to the various de-briefings, always making sure that they covered the full range of missions currently carried out by the Hellenic Air Force, such as :
– air operations against integrated air defense systems
– counter-aviation / airport attacks
– air interdiction / special targets (bridges, power plants, etc.)
– anti-ship missions
– search and rescue in combat areas
– dynamic identification (in real time) of targets / coordination of strikes (ground attacks) and reconnaissance / close air support / “time sensitive” targets
– protection / attack of high value aircraft assets (AWACS, reconnaissance, ECM aircraft)
The event also included two Spotters Days, in addition to the traditional Media Day held on April 1st.
Thanks to the high level of the Hellenic Air Force personnel and the ability to conduct a wide variety of missions and Combined Air Operations (COMAO), involving a large number of different weapon systems, Iniohos has obtained a very important space in the landscape of military training, with little to envy to the “Flag” exercises on a larger scale organized overseas.
